Chatter is a built-in collaboration tool in Equinox Corporate+ that lets users communicate, share updates, and collaborate directly on specific IP cases like patents, trademarks, or contracts. By using Chatter at the case level, you ensure all discussions and decisions are easily accessible and tied to the right record.
Why Use Chatter on a Case?
- Keep communication centralized to the specific record
- Mention colleagues to assign tasks or ask questions
- Share documents or links related to the case
- Maintain a transparent audit trail of conversations and updates
This is especially useful for cross-functional collaboration between inventors, paralegals, IP attorneys, and business stakeholders.
Where to Find Chatter on a Case
Chatter is available as a tab or section on each case record (e.g., a Patent, Trademark, or Dispute record). If you don’t see the Chatter section, contact your system administrator to have it enabled in the layout.
How to Use Chatter on a Case
1. Open the Case Record
Navigate to the specific record (e.g., a patent filing or an invoice dispute) where you want to post an update.
2. Click on the Chatter Tab or Scroll to the Chatter Section
This will open the chatter feed to allow the user to ask a question, poll, or post about the case in particular.
3. Post a Message or Update
Use the Post tab to:
- Write updates
- Mention team members using @Name
- Add hashtags to group related topics (e.g., #urgent, #Q3Filing)
- Upload files relevant to the case
4. Use the “Share an Update” Box for Comments
You can also comment on existing posts to continue the conversation.
5. Get Notifications
Team members who are following the record or are mentioned in a post will receive email or in-app notifications, depending on their preferences.
Best Practices
- Mention with purpose – Use @mentions to alert the right people and reduce email clutter
- Keep it professional and case-focused
- Summarize meeting notes or decisions so the entire team stays aligned
- Attach files rather than emailing them to keep everything centralized
Permissions & Visibility
- Users can only see and post to Chatter if they have access to the case record.
- Posts are visible to all users with access to the record—ideal for team transparency.
