Update expiry date based on PTA & PTE
User will be offered a field on the patent object to add a number of X days for the “PTA (patent term adjustment)” and for “PTE (patent term extension)” in the respective situations. When a value is filled in that field, the “Expiry Date” field will be updated with the calculation taken into account.
The task that is created with subject “Patent term expires today” will also have an updated deadline.
In theory the values of these two fields are not accumulative, so the situation where both values shall be included into the calculation is not legitimate.
Update renewal tasks when base date is updated
Currently when a case date, country info or filing type on a case is changed, the renewal tasks would be marked as done and be brought to the “Activity History” section. New set of tasks will be created according to the pre-set tasks based on the renewal rules.
The enhancement here is: we keep the same behavior for changing country or filing type, but regarding the case date change, we update the renewal date when the changed case date is one of the base dates for this jurisdiction for renewal task generation.
Here we avoid the situation that when the user accidentally changes a case date, all the tasks get closed and reopened.
Management of Primary Owner field
The “Primary Owner” field on the “Asset” objects (Patent, Trademark, Design) overview page is auto-populated from the “Entities” junction object to the right of the page, following the rules below:
Rules applied on Owner record for manual actions
- The first Owner record is automatically set to primary
- Setting primary flag on an Owner record will automatically remove this primary flag on all other existing records and update the related case accordingly
- Removing primary flag on an Owner record will display a warning/advice message first
- Deletion of an Owner having primary flag is forbidden
- Deletion of an Owner without primary flag is authorized without warning message
Primary Owner field management :
This primary Owner field is always displayed in read-only, and is
- filled automatically with the Owner name that is flagged Primary in Entity list
or
- emptied in the case no more entity flagged as primary owner is remaining
Information message :
On each Patent or Trademark (not Design) having primary Owner empty, a red warning message will be displayed at the top right of the layout (at the same place that Suggestions PTO message).
- Message content : "Warning! No Primary Owner set on this Patent/Design/Trademark!"
- This message is displayed only for assets having payment managed by Pavis or Bandstock
On each Patent or Trademark (not Design) having primary Owner filled by default Owner of the client, a red warning message will be displayed at the top right of the layout (at the same place that Suggestions PTO message).
- Message content : "Warning ! Default Primary Owner set on this Patent/Design/Trademark !"
- This message is displayed only for assets having payment managed by Pavis or Bandstock
